With Arbor Day behind us, now is a great time to consider planting a tree on your property. The City of Dell Rapids, with a generous contribution from former Governor Dennis Dauggard, has created a Tree Rebate Program. The City is offering property owners a $100 rebate for the purchase and planting of a 1 inch diameter tree anywhere on your property. The program is limited to a total of 2 trees per property. If you plan to plant a tree in your boulevard area, it is necessary to follow the list of approved boulevard trees. The list of approved boulevard trees and rules for boulevard tree planting can be found on the City’s website
In an attempt to make this program simple and accessible, the City is asking for two things. 1) Fill out the Tree Rebate application form. Download Here 2) Provide a receipt of tree purchase. Then submit the application and receipt to City Hall and receive a reimbursement.
This program is only available for properties in Dell Rapids City limits. Eligible trees must have a trunk of at least one inch in diameter measured 6 inches above the ground. It is your responsibility to contact 811 before digging and planting.
The threat of the Emerald Ash Borer has required the City to be pro-active in the removal of ash trees in boulevards and other City property. The goal of the Tree Rebate Program is to encourage the replanting of a diversity of tree species that will grow and expand the urban forest. The City thanks former Governor Dauggard for making this program possible. Please contact City Hall staff with any questions you may have regarding the Tree Rebate Program.
