SE Infrastructure Project - Construction Phase Changes

SE Infrastructure Improvement Updates:

There has been a change in project scheduling; 3rd Street from Garfield Avenue to Beach Avenue will be closed starting on August 14, 2019, weather permitting.  Access will be maintained to the pool on Beach Avenue until it closes for the season.  The very wet spring and challenging summer weather we have experienced throughout the Midwest, along with the complicated and time-consuming work on the 7th Street portion which includes the shallow bedrock throughout that area and concrete street surfacing, have all contributed to this decision.  Due to these circumstances, H&W Contracting did not believe they would be able to complete the 7th Street portion as previously anticipated.   Instead, they have proposed to work on 3rd Street from Garfield Avenue to Beach Avenue.  They believe they can get all this work completed this year since there is much less rock excavation required, minimal sanitary sewer installation, and the road surface will be asphalt which takes less time to put traffic on.  A benefit to the community of completing 3rd Street this year is that the street will be open and available to access the park during the 2020 summer park activities (Cootie Days and Quarry Days) as well as access to the community swimming pool.
