Downtown Walking Tour
A walk through downtown Dell Rapids is a trip back through time. In 1978 three commercial blocks of Dell Rapids were placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
- The distinctive quartzite buildings along Dell Rapids' the Street commercial strip dating back to 1888 and includes The Grand Opera House.
- The 1902 Dieson Department Store is now home to the Dell Rapids Museum.
- The 1889 First National Bank Building, with its castle-like crenellated towers, is just one of many prominent architectural features along
the downtown historic district.
One block south of the historic business district, the City Park and Bathing Beach, established in 1913, features three historic structures: the 1934 Big Sioux River bathhouse, the 1936 rose stone amphitheater, and the 1929 Dell Rapids bridge spanning the Big Sioux.
