The nostalgic night images of Dell Rapids take on a special seasonal quality as the snow falls and the winter holidays approach.
Dell Rapids wishes for clear skies the first weekend in December -- no matter how cold -- to have a spirited Christmas parade down the historic business district and to welcome the arrival of Santa Claus on a Dell Rapids fire truck.
Sponsored by the Dell Rapids Chamber of Commerce and with proud hosts like the Dell Rapids Museum, Dell Rapids kicks off the holidays in grand fashion.
Waiting for Santa at the Dell Rapids Museum
The former Dieson Department Store, a city landmark since 1902, becomes Santa's branch office as the spacious floorplan allows for decorative trees and other displays. Adults can warm up with hot cider as the kids wait to see Santa. Visitors and life-long residents get a good taste of Dell Rapids' Christmas traditions with houses made of gingerbread and Santa Claus memorizing Christmas wishes as boys and girls sit in an antique sleigh.
